Hiroshi Fujimoto, born on December 1, 1933, in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, was the primary writer of the duo. He was known by his pen name “Fujiko F. Fujio” or simply “Fujiko Fujio.” He started his career as a manga artist in the 1950s and gained recognition for his unique storytelling abilities. In 1969, he collaborated with Motoo Abiko, who adopted the pen name “Fujiko Fujio (A)” to distinguish himself from Fujimoto. Together, they created “Doraemon,” which was serialized in the children’s magazine “Shogaku-Kan” and quickly gained immense popularity.

Motoo Abiko, born on March 10, 1934, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, was the illustrator and artist of the duo. He was known as “Fujiko Fujio (A)” to differentiate himself from Fujimoto. Before partnering with Fujimoto, Abiko worked as a freelance manga artist. His artistic skills complemented Fujimoto’s storytelling, and their collaboration resulted in the creation of memorable characters and imaginative worlds.

“Doraemon,” their most significant work, follows the story of a robotic cat named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to assist a young boy named Nobita Nobi. The series showcases the adventures and misadventures of Nobita, Doraemon, and their group of friends, incorporating themes of friendship, family, and morality. “Doraemon” has since become a cultural phenomenon, spanning multiple manga volumes, anime series, films, merchandise, and even a museum dedicated to the franchise.
The partnership of Fujiko Fujio continued until 1987 when they decided to pursue individual careers. Hiroshi Fujimoto continued using the pen name Fujiko F.
